Obituary

Barbara DeGraffenreid was born June 6, 1965 in Boston, Massachusetts. She was the oldest child born to, Hattie DeGraffenreid and sister of the late Dwight DeGraffenreid. Barbara attended Madison Park High School where she earned her high school diploma. She then went on to briefly study at Roxbury Community College before following her passion in cosmetology. Barbara had a true passion for doing hair. Her passion led her to the school of Blaine’s cosmetology, where shen became a certificated cosmetologist. Hair styling was something she always looked forward to. Whether it was doing her children’s, friend’s to even her own hair, her skills were impeccable.

Barbara was also known for her time for helping others. She was always going out of her way to help people around her. There were a number of people who considered her as a heaven-sent angel, and another as “big mamma”.

Whatever you needed, she was willing to give, even if she did not always have it, she always managed to find
a way to provide. Barbara’s heart was so huge, so loving, so caring, and so kind. She was very quiet, yet her silence was never to be taken out of context for weakness. Everything about her oozed strength and grace. She had endured so much, but at times no one would ever know because she was always concerning herself with helping others. Her words of encouragement spoke volumes to others, including her three children. She will always be remembered for her selfless acts and the joy of serving others. She was a hardworking mom to three children and her legacy continues through them: Kia, Keisha and Willie.

To the family of Barbara DeGraffenreid, my heart goes out to you, please be strong. Barbara and I were high school friends who spent our time laughing, sharing our teenage stories and angst. We lost touch when I moved to New York but I constantly thought of her and wished her well whatever she was doing. I wish you all strength and peace during this difficult time.

Barbara,

We met once but that was all that was needed for me to know the type of woman you are. I knew you to be a strong woman of God who always remained strong, kind, and loving through it all. Please know that you have left a great legacy in the lives of your children, friends, family, and all those who got to know you. You were truly an angel. May your soul rest in peace. Your daughters and son will be blessed forever.
