Fitzlyn Ruth Hodges was born September 9, 1935 in St George’s, Grenada. She was the daughter of the late Agnes Haynes and the sister of Elmeta (Nesta) Haynes, Humilta Haynes, Minerva Haynes, and Elrick Haynes - all preceding her in death; one surviving sister - Roslyn Morris. Fitzlyn departed this life May 30, 2020.

At the age of twenty two, she moved to Curaçao for work and soon after moved to Montreal, Canada. In 1968 she finally settled in Boston, Massachusetts as she continued her education establishing a career in Human Services. Her career blossomed as she serviced people with developmental disabilities at the Walter E. Fernald State School. She also sponsored her sisters Nesta, Humilta, and Roslyn giving them a better opportunity here in the United States.

As a devoted mother, raising two children - Sean Hodges and Monique Hodges, she filled their lives with its truths, trust, forgiveness, love, and belief in God. Her heart was shared with everyone she met. Her hands gifted many as was evident in her love of cooking. Feeding people was a natural at home as her specialties were freshly baked breads and delicious cakes. Having a piece of her warm bread was as special as her touching you with her warm hands. You felt the love! Her vivacious personality was welcome medicine to all. Her hobbies included listening to music, singing and watching classic movies.

Another star shines brightly from heaven as she will be dearly missed.

She leaves to mourn her loss son - Sean Hodges; daughter - Monique Hodges; grandchildren - Jahgah Hodges, Aahron Jones, Ashley Simmons; sister - Roslyn Morris; two nieces - Glenna Thomas, Arlene Morris; nephew - Collins Thomas; as well as a host of cousins and friends.

My dear friend for over 38 years- you will be missed. I will forever reflect over all the years that we have spent together; the times with our children; all of the times I was on the receiving end of your love and your kindness; all the beautiful meals, especially your breads, sowce, and Cakes...It will forever be a part of my soul. I also remember all the beautiful songs you taught me & sang to me; I will always remember you.

I pray to God for your family & hope God will protect & care for them as you lay in peace. I plant these three trees in your memory; may it celebrate your life, your generosity, and your love. This is one last act of my kindness from myself and my children to you. You’ll be missed and forever loved.

With Love,
Angela King

Fitzlyn was a wise and loving woman. We had many things in common, including love of family and good eating. Her Christmas fruit cakes were legendary in our family, a treat that she generously shared with us for many years. Her infectious laughter was always a joy, and these memories will always be with us.

We hope this tree will grow big and strong, and offer nurturing to those in need - just as Fitzlyn accomplished in her lifetime. We will miss her.
