Obituary

Lorna Lucilda Frith-Francois was born on February 14th, 1963 on the paradise island of Montserrat. She was the eldest of four children born to the late Thelma Theola Cabey and the eldest of six daughters born to Randolph Sylvester Beresford Riley.

At the tender age of 11 months, she migrated to Trinidad with her aunt, the late Martha Rosana Bryan, better known as ‘Mama’ and ‘Aunt Rose’, with whom she resided for 14 years. While in Trinidad, she attended the Maracus Valley SDA Elementary School and then the Caribbean Union College SDA Secondary School. She returned to her homeland, Montserrat, for a short stay of about 20 months, residing first with her father, Randolph Riley, and then with her paternal grandmother, the late Henrietta Daly. During that time, she attended Montserrat SDA Community School, the island’s first Seventh-day Adventist Secondary School.

On March 17th 1979, at age 16, Lorna migrated to the United States to join her mother and brothers in Boston, Massachusetts, where she resided until the day of her passing. She attended the old Jamaica Plain High School and subsequently East Boston High School, and finally the new Jamaica Plain High School, from which she graduated in 1981. She then attended the University of Massachusetts-Harvard Campus for 2 years, where she majored in Nursing. She later worked at several hospitals in various capacities, from data entry clerk to medical billing specialist. Lorna was an exemplary and well respected employee who always gave her very best to the job at hand. As a result, she received several awards for excellence in service.

In her early years, Lorna attended the Deeper Life Revival and Faith Pentecostal churches with her brothers, where she was an active member in various youth activities. She has been a long-standing and faithful member of what is now known as Gladtidings House of Prayer for All Nations since 1987, where she has a very special connection with the seniors. Lorna loved to read the Bible and pray. Although she was a woman of few words, she loved the Lord with all her heart.

During her more active years, Lorna enjoyed reading, baking, sharing with others and yes, let’s not forget shopping. She always wore a warm smile, was extremely conscientious of other people’s feelings and was generous to a fault, often making sacrifices to make others happy. Lorna has touched the lives of many people and will forever remain in our hearts as a precious wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, cousin and friend.

Lorna leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Milton Francois, Sr.; daughter, Patrice Odlum; son, Milton Francois, Jr.; and grandson, Payton Cox. She also leaves behind her father Randolph Riley; stepmother, Hazel Riley; her sisters, Chezline Riley, Dr. Ranelli Williams, Valerie Riley, Fiona Riley, Camille Frith, and Randelle Solomon; brothers-in-law, Eric Williams, Raymond Solomon, Alfred Francois Jr., Joshua Francois, and Caleb Francois; sisters-in-law, Mellonie Cumberbatch, Gloria Christian, Monica Francois, Lovina Francois, and Victorine Francois; uncles Clyde Daly, Sr., John Frith, Samuel Riley, and Robert Bobby Riley; her aunts Beatrice Duberry and Iris Riley; nieces, Latoya M. Coren, Aujaunai Gomes, Edwardine Jones, Eulanlee Christian, Natalie Francis-Clarke, and Fiona Francois; nephews, Gerard Gomes, Hartwell Christian, Shaun Francois, Antonio Thomas-Riley, Anthony Riley, Joeraan Williams and Jaevaan Williams; her cousins Paulette Astwood, Evans Frith, Paul Frith, Estelle Frith-Galloway, Maudline Mulcare, Shirley James, Dave Edwards, Avonelle Alfred, Vernese Riley, Hilda Cambric, Hyacinth Pyke, Maxine Smith, Terrance White, Vera White, Veda Mack, Clyde Day, Jr., Camneil Daly, Cliveron Daly, Oracene Fenton and Dorian Fenton; the rest of the Francois family; faithful friend, Edna Herbert, and a host of other relatives and friends, too numerous to mention.

The family would like to also express their thanks to everyone who showed their love and support for Lorna, especially Joan Lyle, Christine McCalman, Diane Brathwaite and Ophelia Ryan, Lorna’s dear friends; and Kisha Reid, her Personal Care Aide.

In the short time that I've known Lorna, I've grown to love her personality and her heart. It was an honor to have been her nurse.
