Thelma P. Tynes-Moore, R.N., loving wife of the late Bernard J. Moore departed this life on Sunday, July 29th in her 92nd year. Thelma was born on June 13th, 1926, eldest child of the late Edith (Samuels) and Robert J. Tynes in Boston, Massachusetts.
Thelma graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School in 1943, and thereafter was accepted into Boston City Hospital School of Nursing. Thelma graduated in 1946 and spent the next 43 years working at BCH (now Boston Medical Center) retiring in 1989 after serving on hospital staff, teaching, opening and managing the first Intensive Care Unit at BCH, Tufts Surgical Service and ending her career in hospital administration while becoming something of a legend. Many of today’s influential Doctors who served their residency at BCH can recall an encounter with the infamous Mrs. Moore.
Thelma also found time to for her community, serving as a Board Member of Forward, Inc (working with Rogerson Communities providing affordable housing for Seniors) and The Biosafety Comm. At the B.U. School of Medicine.
Her hobbies included music appreciation, continuing her education, attending performances of classical music, jazz, broadway and grand opera. Thelma was a long- time supporter and subscriber to The Metropolitan Opera, The Boston Symphony, the Boston Pops and annually attended the Holiday Pops, always taking a few Nieces and Nephews with her. She also travelled extensively through the USA, Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving Sisters Roberta Walcott and Sara Johnson; Nieces Beverly Johnson and Tracey Gray; Nephews Alan Johnson and Michael Walcott; Godson David Yancey; Stepson Bernard J. Moore, Jr. 3 Grand Nephews Nicholas Walcott, Matthew Walcott and Karsten Johnson; 3 Grand Nieces Whitney Gray, Nicole Walcott and Nykesha Johnson; Great Grand-Nephew Theodore Walcott and a Host of Relatives and Friends.
Nephew Robert J. Walcott preceded her in death.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Thelma’s Life will be held on Sunday September 16th 2018 at Snow Place, 1205 Centre St., West Roxbury, MA 02132 from 3-7 P.M.
