Evilena Austin (Geter)
On May, 2018 Evilena Austin passed away peacefully in her home after a short illness surrounded by her family. She was 96 years old.
Evilena was born in Spartanburg , SC to Walter Thompson and Cathalena Geter-Thompson. During the 1940”s while working for the Pullman Company she relocated to Boston where she met and married Army Air Force Private Raymond Austin on June 15, 1944.
Evelina was a domestic worker in the Greater Boston area for many years. She became part of the families that knew her. Many have shown their love and adoration have remained in touch years after her retirement.
Although she only had one biological child, Evilena was a second mother to a host of her nieces and nephews. She was affectionately called “Nana” by a multitude of family friends because of her warm and loving personality. In addition to her warm heart her warm meals also prepared for anyone that came to her door, especially the friends of her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her home had a reputation of gracious hospitality. Everyone felt welcomed just on the strength of her graciousness.
Evilena is survived by her daughter Michelle Austin, her grandchildren Mercedes, Michael and Milena and her great-grandchildren Malika Austin, Madison Austin, Tatiana Austin, Monet Lewis, Micah Austin, Mya Austin, and Morgan Jenkins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Austin and her siblings, Clarence Fant of Long Island, NY, Mattie Smith of Woodruff, SC , Juanita Thompson of Pheonix, AZ and Leroy Thompson of Woodruff, SC.
There will be a Viewing on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:00am followed by Funeral Service at 11:00 O'clock at Emmanuel Temple Pentecostal Church 471 Warren Street, Dorchester, MA 02121.
Interment: Oak Lawn Cemetery, Roslindale, MA
