Martinez Napoleon McNeil was born on September 22, 1956 in Fort Bragg, North Carolina to the late Wilford and Magalene McNeil. He was educated locally and abroad. Growing up in a military family relocating happened regularly. Martinez graduated from Malden high school in 1974 and went on to study voice at the Boston Conservatory of Music. On June 23, 1979. Martinez married the love of his life Malinda. From this union two children were born Shaleah McNeil-Tersilas and his namesake Martinez McNeil Jr. Martinez was friend and father to many.
Martinez attended Zion Temple Holy Church under the leadership of Bishop Paul McKoy Sr. He served in many capacities such as Sunday School Superintendent, Minister of Music and Church Elder. After attending Zion Temple Holy Church for many years Martinez and Malinda transitioned to Imani Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Michelle D. Wheeler. Martinez served as a Minister of Music and Church Elder.
Martinez’s favorite place was sitting at the piano. Whether he was worshipping or writing songs his musical gifts were always at work. He was a playwright and voice instructor. Regardless of what stage he was on he always found a way to shine. When he wasn’t on stage he was in the kitchen whipping up his famous sweet potato pies, chocolate butter cake with cherries or lasagna. Martinez loved to cook.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 38 years, Malinda McNeil, his four children Shaleah McNeil- Tersilas (Kevin), Martinez McNeil Jr.(Nakia), Goretti Boyer (Myrlande) and Justin T. Santos. Three beautiful granddaughters, DaNiah, Victoria Grace and Victoria Madison, three grandsons Claude,Justin Jr. and Petraeus. He was preceded in death by his parents Wilford L. McNeil Sr. and Magalene E. McNeil, his mother and father-in-law Rodney and Marilyn Brown, his Godmother Edna Lender, his two brothers Wilford L. McNeil Jr. (Eula), Sam McNeil, seven sister in law’s, three brother in-laws, nephew Wilford L. McNeil Ill (preceded him in death),two nephews Corey McNeil, (LaShon),Marcell McNeil, two nieces Diamond and Emerald McNeil ,and a host of nieces,nephews,God-sisters God-children,family and friends.
A Viewing will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:00am followed by Funeral service at 11:00 O’clock at Mt. Olive Kingdom Builders Center 234 Norfolk Street, Dorchester, MA 02124
Interment: Oak Lawn Cemetery
