Obituary for Rosie Key (Kindell)
Rosie Lee (Kindell) Key was born on April 6, 1941 in Opelika, Alabama. God called her home on March 1, 2018. She was the daughter of John and Mary Elizabeth (Washington) Kindell. Rosie Lee graduated from Sanford High School in Opelika, Alabama. In 1961, she moved to New York City where she met and married John L. Key. He preceded her in death in 1999.
While raising her children, Rosie Lee worked part-time at various department stores. When her youngest child entered school in 1976, she began working full-time as a paraprofessional in the Boston Public School system. She remained with BPS until retirement in 2006.
Rosie Lee loved her family fiercely! She was a soft-spoken and humble woman who loved the Lord and read her bible faithfully daily and other Christian books. She could sew, loved crafting, wrote music (some of which she tried to get published) and poetry. It’s a little known fact that she was fluent in Spanish.
Rosie Lee enjoyed talking on the phone especially with her beloved sisters. As all her nieces and nephews can attest to, she could keep your secret!
All her life, Rosie Lee was considered a fashionista. When you think of her, you immediately think of a well-dressed woman who matches from head to toe. Don’t forget her neatly coiffed hair…which was never out of place!
From 1966-1996, Rosie Lee was an active member of Deliverance Revival tabernacle Church where she served as the Sunday School Treasurer and Teacher for many years.
Those who loved her, used a variety of names of endearment (i.e., Aunt Rosa, Aunt Rose, Aunt Rosa Lee, Aunt Ro Lee and Sister Keys.
She is survived by her children: Donald L. Key (Cynthia); Bridget C. Key and Joanel S. Key all of Boston, MA; two (2) grandchildren: Alexandria Porter (Nathan) and Donald L. Key, Jr. She also leaves to mourn her passing her siblings: Jim Henry Kindell (Queenette) of Boston, MA and Ella Mae Torbert (Fred) of New York City.
In addition to her husband, Rosie Lee was predeceased by her brothers: Virgil Kindell, Bennet Kindell, L.C. Kindell, John Kindell, Alexander Kindell, Charlie L. Kindell; and sisters: Mattie Lee Kindell and Frances Mary (Kindell) Reeves.
She will be missed by a myriad of nieces, nephews, cousins, four (4) sisters-in-law (Izora Kindell, Sammie Lee Kindell, Yulac Kindell and Queenette Kindell) and many friends.
