Beverlye Marie Keaton Hinds was born at Freedmen’s Hospital in 1952 to Alpha Marie Keaton of Bluefield, Virginia and James Keaton of Beckley, West Virginia. Beverlye was joined by the birth of her two brothers, Bryan and Barry Keaton.
Beverlye embraced being the big sister and often shared stories of their youth.
Beverlye attended Garfield and Stanton Elementary School, Hart Junior High Francis Scott Key Middle School, graduating from Central High School. She was an excellent student with a strong sense of social consciousness. Beverlye was an avid student of the civil rights movement, who was not afraid to share her thoughts on any given topic.
Beverlye, both beautiful and articulate, was spoiled every Saturday by her father who would take her shopping. An original diva, she also adored going to the hairdresser. Well known to us all was her love for Motown music, her favorite song being “The Love We Have Stays on my Mind” by the Dells.
Beverlye went on to attend Boston University, where she graduated with high honors. Her academic achievements lead to a successful career in Human Resources Management. Beverlye enjoyed employment with New England Life, The Gillette Company, Prime, Stride Rite, and Rockport.
Beverlye was very outgoing and made many lifelong friends in Boston. She met David Hinds in the early 80s, and they were married in October of 1987. Beverlye became a member of David’s large and close knit Barbadian family during her life in Boston. In January 1991, David and Beverlye were blessed with the arrival of Erskine David Hinds, the apple of Beverlye’s eye.
