Ms. Louella “Babe” James was born on February 20, 1933 in Columbia, Tennessee to Elizabeth and Louis James. She was educated in the Maury County School System. At a young age, she left Columbia, TN, and moved to Nashville, TN., for a brief stay and later moved to Boston, Massachusetts for the next 40 plus years. While living in Boston, she was employed at Morgan Laundry, Lane Bryant and finally Blue Cross / Blue Shield where she retired from in 1978. Louella was able to purchase her first home in Dorchester, Massachusetts, fulfilling a dream she always had. Later in her life, her aunt Ruth, her sister Josephine and cousin Maria would visit her frequently, playing a card game known as spades. She enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox, gardening, and playing her favorite video game, Pac Man. Even up until recently, you could find her playing Pac Man, watching movies and on nice days, sitting outside in the yard relaxing.
She took pride in helping others and making everyone feel welcome. Everyone was always welcomed in her home. She especially enjoyed the holiday season and would love to cook knowing she would have a house full. Long after retiring and many grandchildren and great grandchildren she decided to move back to her hometown Columbia, Tennessee in January of 1999, with her son Vincent and adopted son and grandson Vincent. She was preceded in death by a son Richard Osborne, her brother Richard James Sr., her sister Josephine Jackman and her daughter-in-law Elistia “Lisa” James.
She leaves to cherish her memory, sons: Ed James (Suzanne) of Walpole, MA; James W. James (Yvonne) of Hyde Park, MA; Johnny James of Weymouth, MA, and Vincent James of Columbia, TN; Daughters: Carolyn Hampton (William) of Battle Creek, Mich., Iva D. McClain of Columbia, TN; Teresa Ann Davis of Nashville, TN, and Henrietta James of Boston, MA.. TN. Her adopted sons and grandsons Vincent James of Columbia, TN and Johnny James of Boston, MA. She also leaves 20 grandchildren, 25 greatgrandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends. She had unconditional love and respect for everyone. She was loved and will be truly missed.
There will be a viewing on Friday December 8, 2017 from 11:00 to 12:00 pm followed by Funeral Service at 12:00 Noon at the Blue Hill Church of Christ 1505 Blue Hill Avenue, Mattapan, MA 02126.
