Obituary for Joseph Stanley
Joseph "Joe" Stanley, son of Lucille (Duncan) Stanley and John Carol Stanley was born September 25, 1951 in Boston, MA., passed away on August 2, 2017. He was 65 years old.
Joe attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Jamaica Plain High School. He also attended the University of Pittsburgh and graduated from the Peterson School as a licensed boiler repairman.
As a youth, Joe enjoyed playing the drums , basketball and chess. As an adult he loved model trains, the Temptations, football and clothes. Joe took pride in being a loving husband, father and grandfather. He shared some of these passions with his children and grandchildren. Joe also took pride in helping others and dedicated over 20 years of his life to helping people from different walks of life.
He worked as a substance abuse councilor in local shelters, Bridgewater State Prison, Dorchester's Drug Court and at STEPRox Recovery Support Center. Through his passion for helping others he has traveled to many cities for various speaking engagements, rescued youth from the streets and took them to the Home for Little Wanderers and built a strong support network for those who needed help.
He is survived by his wife Rose (Grant) Stanley; sons George Stanley and Corey Grant, daughter and daughter-in-law Cashey Grant-Woods and Karen Solis. Grandchildren, Anthony Grant-Solis and Amiya Wilson.Sisters, Joyce Stanley and Gwen Creary, twin brother John Stanley, sisters-in-law Akila Stanley, Sheila Hart, Christine Grant, Marilyn (Grant) Ojadi and Tracy (Grant) Mason. Brothers -in-law, Lester Grant, Robert Pittman and Michael Grant and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by parents and sisters Joan Stanley and Carol Harrell.
There will be a Viewing on Friday, August 25, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:00 am followed by Funeral Service at 11:00 O'clock at Morning Star Baptist Church, 1257 Blue Hill Avenue, Mattapan, MA 02126.
Interment: Oak Lawn Cemetery, Roslindale, MA.
