Obituary for Walter Jeffress Jr.
Walter J. Jeffress, Jr. passed away on the 17th of July, 2017 peacefully, in his sleep. He was 69 years old. Walter was born in Boston, MA on April 18, 1948 as the first born of Dorothea C. Jeffress and Walter J. Jeffress, Sr. His sister, Aleta, was born six years later. Walter served his country in the armed forces as a Military Police Officer. He was awarded the National Defense Service Metal as a M16 and M14 expert marksman.
Walter was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Boston, where he earned a Bachelor's of Science degree. Trained in Sociology, Walter applied this skill set to a variety of positions throughout his career. His love of music helped him to become one of the best DJs you would ever meet. He kept an enviable music collection and often gifted his family and friends with themed and meticulously curated playlists for holidays, birthdays, and special occasions. He taught himself how to play both the guitar and flute and could fix just about anything he put his hands on.
He retired after years as an employee of Louisberg Gardens, where he grew to love plants and nurtured them as he nurtured the many people in his life.
He was married to Barbara Majette and was left a widower after her passing in August 2016. Walter was a dedicated son who moved from Atlanta back to Boston to become the main caregiver for his mother, Dorothea Rowling and then later assisted in the caring of his stepfather, Russell Rowling. After retirement, Walter spent much of his time renovating the family residence on Bilodeau Rd and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by one child, Walter J. Jeffress III; two siblings, Aleta C. Saunders and David Johnson; one sister-in-law, Melindy Johnson; three nieces, Amber C. Saunders, Lauralee Johnson and Candace Johnson; two cousins, Henry Lee Sr. and Bruce Lee. Like his father before him, Walter was a quiet man with a kind spirit, who will be surely missed.
